Question

Can someone explain why I can't turn the multicurrency feature off to downgrade my QB essentials account, I didn't turn it on?

Once the Multicurrency feature has been activated, you cannot turn this off, @natalie54. This is because currency conversion information will have to be accounted for in the system moving forward. Allow me to explain this further below.

Currently, QuickBooks Online (QBO) does not offer an option to disable the Multicurrency feature once it’s enabled. The system starts accounting for transactions in different currencies, including conversion rates and currency-specific calculations. As a result, this also prevents you from downgrading your account.

Here's how to check if the Multicurrency feature is active:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Accounts and settings.

  2. Click Advanced.
  3. In the currency section, verify if the Multicurrency is turned on.

If you find that it’s turned off but are still unable to downgrade, you can clear your browser’s cache as this troubleshooting step can resolve the issue.

If the feature is active, someone may have accidentally enabled it. You can use the Audit log to identify any changes or actions within your account.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Audit log.
  3. From there you can see all the actions and changes within your QuickBooks Account.

Learn how to deposit payments to a bank in a different currency in QBO. It can help you manage foreign currency transactions and seamlessly convert them to your home currency.

@natalie54

You can sign up for a new QBO account and purchase a 3rd party service to migrate your data from your old QBO account as a workaround.
