Deleted Balance Entry

Hello there,

I wonder if anyone has had the same problem? I recently began setting up my bank accounts within QuickBooks and managed to accidentally delete the balance entry with a miss click. I am now having trouble trying to find a solution in returning the balance entry to be able to use. Is there any way to overcome this problem?

Hi Shane!

I’m sure you’re not the only one who has experienced the same thing. It's a good thing you posted this in the Community. I'm here to help you bring back your transaction.

To do this, you can create a bank deposit with an opening balance equity category. Then, mark it as reconciled, and this will become your beginning balance. You can also follow the steps below.

  1. Click on the Cogwheel icon.
  2. Choose Chart of accounts.
  3. Double-click the account in concern.
  4. Click the down arrow below the DATE header.
  5. Choose Add deposit.
  6. Enter the details of the deposit.
    • Date
    • Account: Opening balance equity
    • Amount in the Deposit field.
    • Reconcile field: R status
  7. Click Save.

This article will also give you more information about opening balances: Enter an opening balance for an account in QuickBooks Online.
