Question

Special Characters not allowed in Direct Debit

Hi

I have set up a new QuickBooks account today and opted to pay by Direct Debit.  However, QuickBooks won't accept my company name as it has a 'special character' in it, namely a hyphen.  Obviously the name has to be accurate as it appears on my bank account. Any clue how to sort this out?

Thanks

It's good to see you here in the Community, @RazorSharp.

I'm here to help ensure you can set up and process direct debit in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Hyphen is an acceptable character in QBO. It's possible that your company name has other invalid characters that's why it won't allow you to set up or process direct debit. You can check out this article to know the accepted characters in QBO: Acceptable characters in QuickBooks Online.

If you have any special characters in your company name that aren’t listed, you'll need to edit your company name. If none, let's log in to your QBO account using a private browser to verify if it's a browser issue. To do so, you can press this shortcut key on your keyboard:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Option P

If this works, you'll need to clear the browser's cache so the system can start fresh. If you get the same result while using a private browser, I recommend switching to a different one.

If the issue persists, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. They can check on this matter further and provide in-depth troubleshooting steps to get this resolved.

Come back to this post and let me know how the troubleshooting goes, @RazorSharp. I want to make sure you're taken care of.
