Downloads from Coutts

Coutts tell me it is not possible to download transactions automatically - only by .csv. Yet Quickbooks tries to connect but then asks for a code - whereas I log in to Coutts with a password. Is there a way round this?

    Hi Pushkin,

Thank you for joining the UK Community Page.

I am afraid that if Coutts is telling you it's not possible to download the transactions any way other than .csv, then there is no way around this. Our system is set to request a One Time Passcode, something that changes after you use it once.

Normally, if you didn't want to use a One Time Passcode, i'd advise you to speak to your bank and change your security settings there. If you've already spoken to them, and they say that you can only download the transactions into a .csv, then there will not be any way around this I'm afraid as it's based on your banks security.

Thank you. I don't quite understand. Is the One Time Passcode method something which I can opt for to log in to Coutts instead of using a password??? If so I will simply request to switch to this log in and presumably all will be well.

    Hi Pushkin,

    It's worth requesting it.

The way a One Time Passcode (OTP) works, is that as part of Multi-Factor Authentication security, you type in your user ID + password, as stage one.

If you get this correct, you're taken to another screen and asked to enter a One Time Passcode, which is usually generated via an app on your mobile phone, or a hard-token similar to how HSBC do it.

The OTP Changes after it's used, so next time you go into the app on your phone, or press the button on your hard token, you're given a different OTP.

If Coutts offer this as their security, then in theory; we should be able to connect, that's correct. If Coutts don't offer this service at all, then it's unlikely for us to be able to get this automating for you.

Let me know how you get on with Coutts.
