Question

How do you enter purchase vat on EU goods imported. I used PVA import rate and it shows as a sales entry not a purchase?

I can help you enter purchase VAT in QuickBooks, @hilarylbryan.

To enter the purchase VAT on your goods, you’ll want to add a VAT category to your products and services. This way, QuickBooks Online (QBO) can accurately calculate your taxes.

Here’s how:

  1. Open your QBO account.
  2. Select the Gear icon, then choose Products and services.
  3. Locate the item, then click Edit.
  4. Under the Purchasing information, enter the Cost and select an Expense account.
  5. Select the Inclusive of purchase tax check box.
  6. From the Purchase tax ▼ dropdown, select the applicable purchase VAT.
  7. You can select a preferred supplier. QBO remembers your preferred supplier so you can reorder this product easily.
  8. Press Save and close after.

Hi @hilarylbryan

PVA code is correct.

It will show on both sides of the VAT Return - Box 1 & Box 4 - to give a net £zero balance.

Hope this helps.
