I have tried to import journals where there is, say, one credit but two or more debits.

QBO doesn't sem to like it when a journal to be imported contains entriesd other than debiting and crediting exactly the same number, two by two.

 

Am I wrong? If I'm not, is there a way around this rather basic problem?

Welcome to the Community page, 

 

So the journal is not balances, it doesn't matter if theres 40 on one side and 1 on the other, the journal must NOT be balanced in terms of the TOTALS. so yours must be balanced in terms of the totals and thats why is not importing for you, it would seem to be the most likely cause, so we suggest you go back and look at your imports to check this and before trying to re-upload them into your Quickbooks.
