Thanks for taking the time to scour our Community space for potential solutions. It's my priority for you to connect to Online banking, chantallouisasan.

I've checked here our records and there's no reported case where customers encounter an error message when connecting Starling bank in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Here are the following scenarios why you're unable to connect your bank account:

  • The bank may not be a participating bank.
  • Your bank might not connect to all types of accounts (for example, personal accounts vs. business accounts).
  • The bank is having system maintenance.
  • Some banks have multiple names on our list. You might want to check and select the correct one or try all possible bank URLs.

What you can do is reach out to your bank and check for any maintenance update or request to establish a connection with QuickBooks. We can also verify if you're bank accounts are still active and connected. Aside from the Banking page, we can check it in the Chart of Accounts. Here's how:

  1. Click the Accounting menu and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Look for the bank.
  3. A connected bank account will indicate a two-headed arrow under the TYPE and DETAIL TYPE columns.

Please refer to the screenshot below for your reference:

If you want to update your bank, just start fresh by disconnecting and reconnecting it. Just ensure that any transactions needed to be reviewed are already categorized, matched, and added to your registry. You can use these steps in disconnecting your bank:

  1. Go to the Banking or Transactions menu.
  2. Select the blue bank square for the bank account you need to disconnect.
  3. Click the pencil icon in the tile for the bank account you want to update, then select Edit account info.
  4. Select Disconnect this account on save checkbox.
  5. Click Save and close.

Then, try connecting the accounts again using the updated bank's name or website. If the same thing happens, this might be a simple webpage sync issue. Just refresh the Banking page by pressing the F5 button. Then, log out and log back in. This unexpected behavior can also be caused by a cache-related issue. When a browser's cache is full or corrupted, it can cause several issues within QuickBooks. One way to rule this out is to use an incognito or private browser:

  • Ctrl Shift for Google Chrome
  • Ctrl Shift for Firefox & Microsoft Edge
  • Command Shift for Safari

Log in to your QuickBooks account, then check the accounts under the Banking tab. When they appear properly, go back to the regular browser and clear the cache. This will clear the webpage data that's causing the issue. Once done, close out any browser instances to complete the process. Alternatively, you can use another supported browser to check your connected accounts.

When you're able to see the accounts with the downloaded bank entries, you can start categorising them for your books. Check this article if you need a guide: Categorise and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online
