Why do uploaded bank transactions show garbled description and payee in Quickbooks online?

When importing your bank transactions into QuickBooks Online (QBO), you need to follow the specified formats. Adhering to these guidelines will help ensure that your transactions are accurately recorded in the appropriate columns, minimizing the risk of any errors in your records.

 

Since you already imported your transactions, it's best to exclude them so you can upload the correct transactions. Moving forward, it is essential to follow a specific format to ensure they are imported correctly. You can choose from two available formats:

 

  1. 3-Column Format: This includes the following columns: Date, Description, and Amount.
  2. 4-Column Format: This includes the following columns: Date, Description, Credit, and Debit. Ensure that you format your transactions correctly to facilitate a smooth import process.

Thank you but I think you missed the point. We followed the specified format, using the 3 colomn format when importing the csv file. Everything appeared correctly, full description including payee etc.. However, after we had reached the 'Import completed' screen and pressed 'done', we were presented with the transactions to review and the full descriptions had been replaced by a single letter such as A or D, random and incorrect payee names were showing, random categories chosen ...only date and amount remained correct. Some transactions escaped this treatment which seemed to be when they were identified as rules.
