adding attachments from Receipts to Bills in quickbooks online

I have duplicate transactions in by bank.  One is a Expense one is a Bill, same date/amount.  The Expense has the Receipt attached which I can see a picture of when I click the blue link in the box at the bottom left of the Expense page.

The Bill has no Receipt attached but does have the bank match link at the top left of the screen.  

I want to attach the picture link of the Receipt to the Bill that has the bank link.

I have tried to "Save" the picture of the Receipt from the Expense to a file on my computer, then added it to the bill by clicking the blue paperclip.  I refresh my page, then try to see the picture that was saved,  I get directed to the file where it was saved instead of seeing a picture of the Receipt.  

I tried to open the Bill and at the bottom left, click the blue "Show Existing".  Then, at the right, a box pops out and I find my receipt.  I can Download or Add.  In BOTH cases, the same thing happens ....I get directed to the file where it is saved instead of seeing a picture of the Receipt.  HELP.!!  

I just want a picture attached to my Bill that was from my bank feed.  And that Bill has already reconciled. 

I hope someone working in QBO is out there that imports Receipts and has figured this out.

    Hi, @Rhonda60 thanks for taking the time to explain your concern here. 

     

    Let me help you fix the issue when viewing the attachment to your bill in QuickBooks Online (QBO). 


    I see that you're unable to view the attached file even after downloading or adding it. Please know that when viewing the attached file, make sure to click the blue link so you'll not be directed to the file documents. 

     

     

    If you already did this and the same thing happens, you might be experiencing web browser issues. 

     

    The stored history in your regular browser can be corrupted and can cause unexpected behavior in the program. Let's try uploading your attachments using a private browser or incognito browser. This way, we can isolate this for a possible browser-related issue. You can use any of these keyboard shortcuts:
     

    • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
    • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
    • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
    • Safari: Command + Option + P

     

    If you're able to view your attachment successfully, go back to your regular browser and clear the cache to fix the unexpected behavior in the product and to have a clean slate. 

     

    If not, use other supported web engines. The current one you're using may have a temporary issue with QuickBooks. Utilizing a new browser allows you to get back to working order.

     

    Moreover, if this doesn't fix the issue, you can send a screenshot of it for us to have a better picture of your concern. This way, we can provide an exact resolution to your query.

    I am having the exact issue @Rhonda60 was having. The answer that @Nicole_N gave is good, but doesn't address the issue. 

     

    I have one expense that was added, which includes the receipt for the item. We'll pretend it is for $100 on March 1, 2024. (It isn't, but the amount and date shouldn't matter for illustration purposes.

    At some later point, my credit card was linked in, and an entry was pulled in for $100 on March 1, 2024. 

    A duplicate entry was created - we can call it

    So one of the expense IDs has the receipt attached to it. The other duplicate is the "1 online banking match" expense.

     

    Though linking in my credit cards and banks would have been a great feature, it seems to create too many problems for me. 

     

    As you can imagine, it's not just one duplicate entry that was created. I'd like an option to "Merge these two almost identical expenses" or something along those lines. Let it pick up the receipt from one and merge it with the online matched expense. 

     

    I have stumbled upon the same question asked here in the forums multiple times, and am losing hope that it is a problem which has already been solved successfully. But we can keep trying 🙂

    I can see the convenience of merging these two almost identical expenses for you and your business transactions. However, this feature is currently unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO). I recommend sending your feedback so our developers can consider adding this option in the future.

     

    To do so, please follow the steps below:

     

    1. Click the Gear icon in the upper-right corner.
    2. Select Feedback under Profile.
    3. Share your feedback.
    4. Click Next to submit.
