American Express Download Issues. 2021 QBDT Win 10

Suddenly cannot download from American Express using Bank Feeds.  Worked a month ago.  I go to Bank Feeds, choose my Amex feed and it comes up but no transactions load.  I attempted to reconnect the account, QB won't allow it.  Says account already connected.  Try to deactivate Bank Feed in order to set up connection again.  From Chart of Accounts, find Amex account.  Edit account.  Bank Feeds.  Deactivate.  Save.  One of two things occur.  Lightning bolt on account remains, indicating it is still active.  Or, I get an unrecoverable error message from QB and the application shuts down.  Re launch application.  Look at Chart of Accounts and it is still showing an active Bank Feed connection for Amex.  Go to Bank Feeds to try again and Amex is not available in Bank Feeds.  Help!

Welcome, and thank you for reaching out regarding your AMEX account connection in QuickBooks Desktop.

 

Thank you for doing some troubleshooting steps, like deactivating your Bank feeds, disconnecting and reconnecting your account, These are the things that we would advise from here to resolve the issues with downloading transactions. Therefore, I'm going to route you to our QB Desktop Support this time because you've already performed the steps we can provide here. The team is able to use more tools and have this investigated.

 

  1. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help/Contact Us.
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Give a brief description of your issue, then select Continue.
  4. Sign in to your Intuit account and select Continue and then Continue with my account.
  5. We'll email you a single use code. Enter your code and select Continue.
  6. Select to chat with us or Have us call you.

 

I'm also adding this article for your additional reference: Download bank feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop. You can use the Web connect option to upload transactions temporarily.

Contacted QB support.  They informed me that the version I was running (2021 Pro) no longer supported Amex download.  I would need to move to a newer version.  Upgraded the application to 2023.  Ran install, all good.  Tried Amex Bank Feed.  Exact same issue.  Still will not recognize my Amex account.  Radio button shows Bank Feed deactivated on account but still shows lightning bolt to the right on the edit screen.  I don't have time to deal with this right now, I'll enter manually for a couple weeks and when my blood pressure returns to normal I'll reach out again.

Your QBD 2021 is still supported until next year. I'm not sure why their Support team was telling you otherwise. Use the trial version of the converter tool and/or import the *.qbo file to your 2021 QBD file to isolate the problem.
