I have several of the same bank accounts that I named different names and I had them as inactive. I finally was able to make them active and now I want to disconnect them all except for the current one that I'm using, but I can't figure out how to do that and QBO is pulling the payment made to the credit card twice each month from two different of these previously set up bank accounts. How do I clear all this up?

Hello, JE28.

Let's work on the connected bank account and disconnect the ones we don't need. We'll also tackle the duplicate downloaded payments in QuickBooks.

Let's first tackle on how we can disconnect your bank accounts.

We'll want to go to your Chart of Accounts and edit each activated account, then disconnect the connection from your bank. Here's how to do it:

  1. On the Chart of Accounts page, look for the bank account you want to disconnect.
  2. Click the drop-down arrow beside View register
  3. Select Edit.
  4. Check the Disconnect this account on save box.
  5. Click Save and Close.

Do this again for the bank accounts we want to disconnect except for the one we want to use.

Next, regarding the duplicate payments, this is likely related to how the bank accounts were initially connected.

Multiple connections from the same bank can cause duplicates when downloading the transactions.

Let's just make sure to connect one account type per bank account to prevent this.

We would also want to check how the bank sends the transactions through QuickBooks. If you only have a single account type from your bank, we'll want to reach out to them and see what's causing the duplicates.

After dealing with the duplicate transactions and disconnecting all bank accounts, we can start categorizing your transactions on the current account

If we're ready, we can start our regular reconciliation process
