Bank download description data converted to "X's"

Quickbooks online (desktop and web version) now appear to be modifying transaction description information such that most of the important data is removed from users.  As a result, reconciling financial information between quickbooks systems and third party systems is now impossible. Why is quickbooks modifying my banking transaction information in such a manner?

The bank download description data converted to "X's".  Here is an example:  PREAUTHORIZED ACH CREDIT Marketplace HCCLAIMPMT XXXXXXXXXX*XXXXXX4593\ ....

These "X's" never used to be there.  Quickbooks used to give basically the entire unmodified transaction data when downloading from a bank acct.

I know how beneficial it is and I'm here to help get this information shown, @patrick.wood.

QuickBooks Online downloads bank details based on how the financial institution shares the read-only information.

Also, these details aren't truncated when the option to Copy bank detail to memo and Show bank details boxes are checked. Simply begin by clicking the mini Gear icon on the upper right of the Banking window.

This will help you get the information on your next downloaded transactions and categorize them easily.

In the meantime, make sure to follow the steps above and I'd encourage getting a bank statement from your financial institution. Then copy the information from there and then click the bank transaction in the For Review tab and paste it in the Memo field.

I've added this article: QuickBooks Online file size and feature limits, then go to the What are the character limits in fields section. It will tell you the most commonly used fields in the system.

You can also set up a bank rule to automatically categorize transactions. Check this out to learn more about how to use this feature: How to set up bank rules in QuickBooks Online for instructions and detailed steps.

If you have some questions, please place them here. I'll get back to answer them. Have a great Sunday!
