Bank Feeds Memo

Hello,

I did some research but could not figure out an answer to my question.

When I download transactions through bank feeds either for my bank or cc, it shows a "Bank Memo"

When I want to write what this transaction is for, or a description of the transaction, I have to go to "Add more details" and then in the "Memo" I can put description of the transaction.

This is very time consuming when entering 100s of transactions.

My question is whether a Memo can be a column in the downloaded transactions, so I can quickly write what it is for and then "add" instead of constantly clicking "add more details" to put in the actual memo of the item.

Thank you for any help

I appreciate you for coming back to the thread to clarify your concern about adding a Memo column in the bank feed center, PKN2020. Please know that this option is currently unavailable on QuickBooks Desktop, but I'll ensure you can send feedback so our product developers can consider adding the feature in future updates.

I recommend going to the Help icon and selecting Send Feedback Online. You can then request the ability to add a Memo column so you can add extra details or quickly write what it is for. Any suggestions are forwarded to our engineers to be considered in future updates.

Lastly, you may refer to this article to see steps on how you can reconcile your accounts to avoid any discrepancies: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop.

I’ll be around to help if you need further assistance with managing your bank information in QBDT. Just add them to your reply below, PKN2020. Keep safe always!

Hi, @PKN2020. I appreciate you for doing some research to achieve your goal.

Let me share some information about the bank memo in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

After you download your transactions through bank feeds, you can see that the Memo will show as a Bank Memo column. You can set that up in the settings by ticking the box. I've included a screenshot for visual reference.

If you want to put a description of the transaction, you can change or put it in by clicking on the bank memo field without having to select "Add", then "Add more details". That should make your work a lot easier and faster. Please refer to the screenshot below for your guide.

Moreover, you can visit this article to learn how to create rules to help QuickBooks match your Bank Feeds transactions: Create rules to categorize transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

If you need further assistance managing your bank transactions, don't hesitate to leave a reply. Take care and have a good one!

Hi,

Thank you for the reply. The gear icon "Memo" is not really My memo, it shows the column for the "Bank Memo", it should have been renamed to Bank Memo, not just "Memo".

There is a difference between Bank Memo and the Memo that user can add for a transaction.

Bank Memo is bank's description of the transaction, not mine description.

Even if I change the description of the "Bank Memo" this will not be recorded in quickbooks under user's Memo, the user's Memo field will be blank when you look up the transaction in the Chart of Accounts. Only way to add description for user's Memo is to click on "add more details" and then type the description under the Memo field.

I want to find out if there is a way to add Memo (user's memo, not bank memo) in the bank feed center to avoid clicking on "add more details" because again, changing the description of Bank Memo does not serve any purpose as this is not my Memo, only bank's memo and my memo will be blank after adding the transaction.

Did you ever figure this out?

Hi there, @jacob007. I understand you want the memo line to populate when bank rules are created and applied.

Before anything else, if you're using the Express mode, you can edit the Bank Memo field by going to Add more details. If you're using the Advanced mode, you can directly edit it.

Please see the attached screenshot for a visual reference.

You can visit this article for more detailed information: Switch between banking modes

Once you've created a bank rule for categorizing your transactions, the bank memo description will disappear when applied. I understand how important it is to populate the description automatically, so I recommend sending feedback to our product development team. Your ideas will be reviewed and may be implemented for future updates.

To send your feedback:

  1. Hover to the Help menu, and click the Send Feedback Online option.
  2. Choose the Product Suggestion, and a pop-up window will appear.
  3. Type your feedback suggestion in the space provided, then click the Send Feedback button.

In the meantime, you can manually enter the memo description after the created rule has been applied to the transaction.

Hi

I saw this same answer which you posted before.

It does not really answer the question being asked by the people here. Putting in input by hand can be down in excel. Does Quickbooks Desktop not provide and automazation for this? Please answer specifically to this question.
