Hello,

QB Desktop Pro 2021

We have never used bank feeds in the past and have never set them up (we are not interested in using this feature). The problem is when I switch to Single User mode QB says I cannot switch because someone just began using bank feeds. Then QB freezes and I have kill the process in task manager and relaunch QB.

I checked all of our accounts, none of the bank feeds are set up so of course there is no bank feed tab that is mentioned in other posts.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Ben333,

Thank you for posting here in the Community. I'm here to help you switch to the single-user mode in QuickBooks Desktop.

You usually encounter this issue when QuickBooks data is damaged. There are troubleshooting steps you can perform to isolate and fix the issue.

Before you start, I recommend updating QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release. Aside from improving the performance of the software, this process also fixes common and complicated errors automatically.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Help tab in the upper-right corner, then select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Go to the Update Now tab.
  3. Select the updates you want to include.
  4. Put a checkmark on the box beside Reset Update.
  5. Hit Get UpdatesDownload and install automatic QuickBooks Desktop updates
  6. Close and re-open QuickBooks.

Also, check your Chart of accounts to confirm if there are bank accounts connected to bank feeds. The Lightning Bolt column means that the account is verified by the Electronic connectivity or Banking Feeds download process.

Here are the steps to view inactive accounts:

  1. Go to the Lists menu, then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Select the Include inactive checkbox.
  3. View accounts.

After following the steps above, please run the Verify Data and Verify Rebuild tools. These features in QuickBooks will help self-identify data issues within a company file and self-resolve them using Rebuild Data.

To run Verify Data:

  1. Click the File tab at the top menu bar.
  2. Hover your cursor to Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Data.

Next, please run the Rebuild Data option through these steps:

  1. Click the File tab at the top menu bar.
  2. Hover your cursor to Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Rebuild.

Once done, you can re-sort your list. It fixes any odd behavior you may encounter in your master names list, Item list, or Chart of Accounts.

  1. Go to the Lists menu, then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Select the Include Inactive checkbox. If it's grayed out, there are no inactive names.
  3. Go to the View menu, then select Re-sort Lists.
  4. Hit OK.
  5. Close and reopen your company file.

Additionally, I recommend visiting the following article to learn how to deactivate bank feeds using Excel: Fix issues when deactivating bank feeds.

Keep us posted if you need anything else regarding fixing banking errors in QuickBooks. Have a great day.
