Bank Recon

Hello,

I have started with a new company and they have not done bank recon in QB online since they transitioned from the desktop version in July of 2020.  I’m looking for some tips on the beat way to approach this?  How can you tell what status are they at in this process?

Thank you in advance!

Thank you for reaching the Community, Rantianna.

I'd like to help and share what I know about reconciling an account in QuickBooks Online.

It's a good practice to make bank reconciliations every month, preferably soon after you receive your bank/credit card statements.  This way, you can review your accounts in QuickBooks to make sure they match with your real-life bank/credit accounts.

Before you start, always check the opening balance if it's the first time you reconcile an account. Once you have your bank or credit card statement, you can start reconciling. Let me show you how:

  1. Go to the Gear ⚙ icon, then Reconcile. If you're reconciling for the very first time, select Get started to continue.
  2. From the Account ▼ dropdown, select the account you want to reconcile. Make sure it's the same one on your statement.
  3. Review the Beginning balance. Make sure the beginning balance in QuickBooks matches the one on your statement.
  4. Enter the Ending balance and Ending date on your statement.
  5. If you see it, review the Last statement ending date. This is the end date of your last reconciliation. Your current bank statement should start the day after.
  6. Once you're ready, select Start reconciling.

I've also added this article to learn more about the reconciliation process: Learn the reconcile workflow in QuickBooks.
