Question

Bank reconciliation

During checkbook reconciliation, monthly bank service charges are automatically being listed under the deposits list. If I delete them since they aren't deposits, it changes my beginning balance - which can't be manually changed back by me. Why would Quickbooks move those to the deposit column?

Thanks for dropping by here, @dardenfarm. I'll help you get through this to get rid of and transfer the monthly bank services charges to the appropriate account so you can have your reconciliation completed in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).Before doing so, know that I appreciate the steps you've performed, and I want to ensure your query gets addressed so you won't have to worry about it and focus on another aspect of your business.

Since they were downloaded as deposits when they should not have been, know that you may need to undo and exclude those bank service charges, and after doing this, you'll then proceed to do a manual reconciliation. I'll gladly input the steps below so to get you going. To begin, here's how:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Desktop company.
  2. Go to the Downloaded Transaction window.
  3. Locate the transaction that you'd like to get rid, and then click Remove.

For more information, feel free to view our program manual: QuickBooks Desktop for Mac User's Guide.

Additionally, you can visit this page in case you encounter issues with your downloaded transactions in QBDT: Fix online banking issues in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Also, if you want to modify transactions inside your company, feel free to check this article: View and edit transactions in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

@dardenfarm, Thanks for choosing QuickBooks to handle your business. Feel free to get back here in the Community space if you need further assistance reconciling your accounts. We'll be more than happy to help you again. Take care, and have a nice day!
