I have QuickBooks desktop. I went to reconcile my statement today and found that somehow QuickBooks has undone the last 6 years of reconciliation's. Now I am about 6 months behind in this task due to having to work in the restaurant instead of the office but I know for certain i have reconciled my QuickBooks every year as I can't send my accountant his copy until this is done.  I talked to the support team and they have no idea what to do or how to fix this! Has anyone dealt with this before? We did have to merge my register a few months back because my bank switched to a new online service and QB automatically made a new register the first time I tried to  use bank feed.    Help Please

Discovering that years of reconciliations have been undone is indeed overwhelming, @SmokinB. I’ve outlined some alternative solutions to help restore your reconciled accounts and get you back on track smoothly.

Have you turned on your automatic back up in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT)? Or have you created any back ups of your reconciliation before it was undone? If so, you can use these to restore your accounting data or your reconciled transactions. If back ups aren't available, you'll need to manually re-enter your reconciliations.

When merging reconciled and unreconciled accounts in QBDT, both balances will combined, and the reconciled statuses of transactions are retained. Reconciled entries remain marked, and unreconciled ones stay as they are.

With this, you'll want to double-check your account to verify if the reconciled transactions are in your merged account. If it isn't there, you can pull up an Audit trail report to see who made the changes to your transactions. Here's how:

  1. From the top menu, click on Reports and hover over Accountant & Taxes.
  2. Click on Audit Trail from the list.
  3. You can customize or filter the dates on this report by clicking on the Customize Report button.
  4. Click OK to save the changes.

Otherwise, I advise seeking professional advice from your accountant for alternative ways to address your reconciliation issue. This way, you can ensure the accuracy of your accounts.
