Bank Reconciliation manually adjust beginning balance

Is there a way to manually fix/change the beginning balance on a bank account to reconcile?

My client had some issues with migrating her old bank account to her new bank account.  There were some transfers on the old account that were not in the banking/statements that I deleted.  However, that increased my beginning balance on the new account because the prior accountant had marked them reconciled apparently (they shouldn't have been).


Any idea on how to fix this??

The beginning balance in QuickBooks should match your bank statement for the same start day. Compare the opening balance of the account you are reconciling with your real bank account before making any changes. Then, you can follow these steps to fix or change it.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Go to the Accounting menu, then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find the account on the list.
  3. Select View register.
  4. Search for the opening balance entry. It should have "Opening Balance Equity" in the Account column.
  5. Take note of the date and balance.
  6. Next, you need to compare the opening balance with your real-life account.
  7. Check the account's balance for the same day as the opening balance in QuickBooks.
  8. Click the opening balance entry to expand and edit the amount in the Deposit column.
  9. Once done, hit Save.
