Bank Transactions

A lot of my bank transactions started uploading to my register without my interaction. This was not an issue until pretty recently. The problem is that we have three restaurants and all these transactions need to be assigned to specific accounts. Does anyone know why this would happen or how to correct the problem?

I appreciate you for sharing your concern, @Pizza Tom. I'm here to guide you on how to correct inappropriately categorized transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

If you've created an auto-add rule, any transaction on the For Review tab that meets the conditions is automatically added and categorized to their respective accounts. That said, I recommend reviewing your bank rules to ensure they are configured accurately.

To resolve this issue, we can unmatch the downloaded bank entries and allocate them to the proper account. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Go to Banking and select the tile for the bank or credit card account you downloaded the transaction from.
  2. Click the Categorized tab.
  3. Locate the transaction you want to unmatch and select Undo under the Action column.

Doing so resets the transaction that the program tries to create for you. Once done, go back to the For Review tab and categorize it appropriately.

Additionally, you may consider reconciling your accounts in QBO to ensure they align with your actual bank statements. This process helps ensure the accuracy and balance of your financial records.
