Under Expenses via Transactions > Receipts.

I am able to modify a batch of receipts however I CANNOT modify the Category.

Everytime I do, it maintains the Category as: Owner's Pay & Personal Expenses

This is very frustrating!

I even tried to follow this guide, but I don't have the option that says "Categorize Selected" as the article suggests.

Hi @whattheblank.

I can share a few insights on how to categorize expense receipts in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

In the Receipts tab via the Transactions menu, you can create an expense from a receipt or match them with existing transactions. If you match them to existing expenditures in QBO, you should be able to categorize them by batch in the Expenses menu. Please note that only the expenses and checks can be categorized by batch in the Expenses tab.

In addition, changing the receipts' category can be done manually for each transaction. For now, we're unable to modify them by batch in QBO. My colleague, Mark_R's answer refers to the expenses in the Expenses menu> Expenses tab transactions.

On the other hand, you've mentioned that the system maintains its category after changing the receipt category to a different one. If you're referring to changing the receipt's category by hand, this should modify the category seamlessly after editing and saving. The browser's redundant cache files may have caused QBO to not save your category choice unexpectedly.

In this case, I recommend running QuickBooks in n incognito or private browsing mode. You can run these system-supported browsers and use their private browsing mode shortcuts:

  • Google ChromeCtrl Shift N
  • Microsoft Edge and FirefoxCtrl Shift P
  • SafariCommand Shift N

If it works, I suggest clearing the browser's cache to avoid this from happening again. This will clean the browser's memory and makes your QBO navigation quicker. Alternatively, you can use other supported browsers if the issue persists.

In addition, these articles may help you further handle receipts and attachments like removing them from a transaction or adding a new one:
