I have billable expenses for a customer I purchased from my checking account.  Part of those materials were returned to the supplier.  How do I mark this credit to my checking account as a billable "expense" credit?

Thanks for visiting us here today, @Brian E42.

I'll share the steps on how to record a credit to your billable expense. You'll have to create a credit memo first and then apply it when your customer pays the invoice. This process will correct the posting of your accounts. Let me walk you through how.

To create a credit:

  1. Go to Customers at the top.
  2. Select Create Credit Memos/Refunds.
  3. Choose the customer's name, and enter the credit details.
  4. Click Save & Close.

When your customer pays the invoice, apply for the credit by clicking on the Apply Credits link. See the attached images below.
