Question

Can I correct the bank statement ending date (I used the wrong year) once I have already completed the reconciliation?

Glad to see you here in the Community, @trustrealty.

When an account is already reconciled, the only way we can make changes to it is to undo the reconciliation.

The only way to change the account once it has been reconciled is to undo it. We have the option of manually undoing it or asking the assistance of an accountant.

Accountants who are using QuickBooks Online Accountant have the functionality that allows them to undo all reconciled transactions at once. Please see this link for further information: Undo your client's reconciliations with QuickBooks Online Accountant.

Here's how you can do it:

  1. Access the Accounting tab and choose Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find the account and click on View register
  3. Search and choose the transaction you want to unreconciled.
  4. Tick the box with an "R" multiple times until it's blank, then hit Save.
  • R means reconciled
  • C means cleared
  • Blank will remove the transaction from the reconciliation.

After that, you now reconcile the account again with the right ending date this time. Here's a helpful guide about handling reconciliation: Learn the reconciled workflow in QuickBooks.

It's always my pleasure to help. Message us back if you have other concerns with reconciliation or QuickBooks. Take the best care!
