Question

Can I use a business credit card to pay for full amount of utilities that I also use for my home office? Or is it better to charge a personal card?

Hello @contigocoachings,

Thank you for dropping by here in the Community. I'm here to help you with your question about paying utilities using a credit card.

Self-employed individuals use a Schedule C form to report their self-employed income and expenses. Every time you categorize a transaction in QuickBooks Self-Employed, the system matches it to a line on your Schedule C.

The way you handle the utilities will depend on the situation and the IRS guidelines. You may use your business credit card or personal, as long as you categorize the transactions correctly.

You can check the IRS website or consult your tax adviser to ensure there will be no problems when filing in the future. They can provide advice on which method is better for the utilities.

Additionally, you can check out this link to learn more about the Schedule C categories, as well as how they appear on reports: Schedule C and expense categories in QuickBooks Self-Employed.
