Question

Can't import transactions older than 90 days from American Express (Mac QuickBooks2020)

I have Quickbooks 2020 Desktop Mac version hooked up to my American Express account. I forgot to download transactions for several months. When I went to sync it up again it synced everything for 90 days.

However I have a hole between May and November of 2020. I figured out the exact dates, went on Amex online and searched for transactions for this time period and downloaded as a .qbo file. When I go to import it it says it's imported the number of transactions but it doesn't show them where I can match them up with the proper accounts. They just go in and disappear and I can't figure out how to import these missing transactions.

It's driving me insane.

Hi there, robgnyc.

I appreciate you for performing detailed information on your concern about missing transactions.

Since the system says it's imported the transactions and it doesn't show them so you match them up with the proper accounts, it could be the entries already added or categorized. To confirm this, you can go to the Bank Register and you'll see all cleared transactions from there.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Banking menu at the top.
  2. Choose Use Register.
  3. Select the specific account from the drop-down arrow.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Review and find the transactions.

If the issue continues to occur, you can manually refresh the connection of the bank with QuickBooks Desktop to see the latest imported entries. Please follow the steps below.

  1. Click the Banking menu at the top.
  2. Choose Bank Feeds.
  3. Select Bank Feeds Center.
  4. Choose the specific bank account.
  5. Click the Refresh accounts button.

If the problem persists, I recommend running the QuickBooks built-in diagnostic and repair tools called to rebuild and verify data utilities. These tools will repair and notify you of any possible data damage within the file. You can click this article to see the process:  Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.

Please refer to this article to see steps on how you can reconcile your accounts so they match your bank and credit card statements to avoid discrepancies: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop.

Reach out to me in the comment section if you have any other issues or concerns. I want to make sure everything is taken care of for you. Have a wonderful day!

When I look at the transaction register, I just see a bit gap between 5/27/20 and 11/26/20.

In my banking menu there is no option for Chose Banking Feeds.

I have used the utilizes to verify and rebuild the data. This didn't help.

Is there any way to force it to ingest the missing data from the .qbo file? Would it work if the data was in another format? I've looked in the raw XML data to see that the account number in the <ACCTID> node matches my account id so I know it's not that (I saw this as a suggested solution in other threads).

Are there any other workarounds?
