Question

Cannot Select an Open Invoice to Match

I've downloaded and am reviewing transactions from my bank. However, when I need to "Add More Details" to a deposit, I cannot select an open invoice to match it to. I can see the list of all open invoices, but I can't select one.  I've used QB Desktop for 8 years and have never run into this problem.

Hi @BD2013,

I'll clear things up for you about the Add More Details button for a transaction in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

When you hit this button, it allows you to create a rule to categorize transactions.

For the full set of steps:

  1. Select a transaction.
  2. From the Action column, tap Add More Details.
  3. Hit Create rule from this transaction
  4. From the Add Rule screen, add the details for this rule.
  5. Click Save.

As for the process of matching bank transactions, see this article: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop. It has different modes for your online bank, along with the steps on how to match them.

Don't hesitate to tag me in the comments below if you have additional questions about this process in QBDT. I'll be glad to assist you further.

The problem isn't related to rules, it's more of a bug in a newer release of QB Desktop Pro 2020.

After at least 8 hours on with QB tech support, we determined that this was a difference (problem) with the newer version of QB Desktop Pro 2020 (R10_45) that I installed on my newer computer on 1/14/21. The checkboxes are not displaying in the "Add More Details" screen in either the "Open Invoices" tab or in the "Undeposited Funds" tab, making it impossible to connect these deposits to open invoices. I have not yet heard back from QB about a fix, but in the meantime, I'm able to log on to an old computer and to an older version of QB I have there (R10_29), match these deposits to open invoices, save the file again as a portable file, and return to work on my newer computer with the newer version of QB. I'm not sure how long this workaround will work, but I hope QB fixes it soon.
