I am trying to catch up with my 2020 and 2021 business taxes. I need to categorize each transactions from these 2 years, but right now I don't see anything from 2020 or 2021. How do I find it and then how to I categorize it?

I've got you covered on how to find and categorize the transactions from 2020 to 2021 in QuickBooks Online (QBO), afiroozn.

We can go to the bank register to see your 2020 and 2021 business taxes transactions. Here's how:

  1. Go to Bookkeeping or Accounting, then select Chart of accounts.
  2. Find the bank or credit card account to which the transactions are linked into.
  3. Select View register.
  4. Find and write down the date of the oldest transaction. Usually, the oldest transaction is the opening balance.

If no transactions are found on that period in the Chart of Accounts, we can get them from your bank. Let me show you how:

  1. Sign into your bank or credit card's website.
  2. Follow your bank's instructions for how to download CSV files of your transactions to your computer. Every financial institution has different steps. Here are steps for Bank of AmericaChase, and Wells Fargo.
  3. Check the date range for the download. It should be at least one day before the date of your oldest transaction.
  4. Download your transactions. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it, like your computer's desktop.

Then, open and review the file from your bank. Make sure it's in the correct format before you upload it. If the file is too big, shorten the date range and download transactions in smaller batches.

Then, proceed to Step 4 to manually upload the transactions in this article: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online. Once done, follow the next steps to finish the process. By then the transactions are in QuickBooks, and we can match and categorize them. The transactions go into your accounts after you review them.

The program also enters certain details automatically if you set up any banking rules, or if it recognizes transaction descriptions. To know more about matching downloaded transactions, you can check out this article: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Lastly, you can wait for a couple of days and review for a match again. I've included an article that will help you in matching your transactions: Tips for Working in QuickBooks Online’s Bank Feeds: Matching Transactions.

I'm always here if you need any more help to categorize your transactions in QuickBooks. I look forward to being able to help you again in the future. Have a great day!
