Change a written check to a credit card charge

I imported receipts into Quickbooks 2021 desktop and they all showed up in a checking account. How do I change them into a credit card charge? I tried editing the check but there were no credit card accounts listed or radio buttons to change.

Once a transaction is recorded as a check (also most other transaction types) you can't change the type.

Hello, @egerdr. It's my pleasure to walk you through changing the imported receipts from checks to credit card charges.

 

Please know that checks can only be recorded in bank accounts. Hence, you can only select a bank account on the Write Checks window. Credit card charges are not available in the dropdown list as they are a transaction type, not an account. Therefore, you cannot convert a check into a credit card charge.

 

Since the receipts are recorded on the bank register from your Chart of Accounts, you'll need to locate the Checks and delete them. After that, you can manually recreate the transaction as a Credit card charge under the Banking menu.

What? No, that's not the case at all. Your logic is upside down.

 

Banks accounts are only available on that list because checks can only be recorded in bank accounts.

 

Checks can't be changed into credit card charges because Intuit made that the case when they designed QuickBooks, not because only bank accounts appear.

 

Also, "credit card charges are not available in the dropdown list" because credit card charges are a transaction type, not an account, and that list is obviously a list of accounts.

 

All of which you, the QuickBooks expert, should know and not have to be told by me, a lowly user.
