Good day and I hope you're doing well, JimNDash.

I'll help you retrieve the check numbers in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Let's start by running the Audit log feature. It tracks all activities, like who made changes to your books and what they did.

Let me show you the steps for running the Audit log.

  1. Sign in as an admin in QBO.
  2. Go to Settings ⚙, then select Audit Log.
  3. Choose All Users from the User drop-down, then filter the Date Changed and Events to narrow the results.
  4. Find the check, then click View under the History column. From there, you'll find the original details.
  5. Once you find the original check number, take note of it, then enter it later while managing the transaction.

To learn more about how QBO records all account activity, you can browse this article: Use the audit log in QuickBooks Online. It also explains how specific user profiles are created.

If you're unable to find the original check numbers, I suggest reviewing your bank statement and finding the information from there.

Writing and recording checks for your expenses keep your checking account organized in QuickBooks. There are several ways to enter payables, and this article will help you choose to ensure you're tracking transactions correctly: Learn the difference between bills, checks, and expenses.

I hope we’ll stay in touch and get to work together again in the future. I'm always around here in the Community forum to help you. Enjoy your weekend!
