Connect a bank account

Hello,

When I link a bank account in QBO, it creates a new G/L account. How do I link to an existing G/L (checking) account instead ending up with two checking accounts?

thanks

Hi there, efish123.

I'll make sure you'll be able to connect bank accounts in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To start, we can disconnect the newly created G/L account. Then, link the existing bank account instead of creating a new one.

Here's how:

  1. On the left navigation bar, hover your cursor on the Banking menu or Transactions menu and choose Banking.
  2. Select your bank account.
  3. Click the pencil ✎ icon, then press Edit account info.
  4. Put a checkmark on the Disconnect this account on the save checkbox.
  5. Hit Save and Close.

In addition, here's an article to learn more about default and special accounts in QBO: Manage default and special accounts in your QuickBooks Online chart of accounts.

After you've added your new bank account, you'll need to match, categorize, and reconcile them to guarantee your books are accurate and there are no duplicates:

If you need further guidance with your bank account connection, let me know in the Reply section below. Have a great rest of the day!
