I've got the steps for you to link your replacement card in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @urban dweller. I'll lay out the detailed process.

 

If the replacement card has the same credit card number, you can unlink the previous connection and link the new one. Here's how:

 

  1. From the Transactions menu, go to the Bank transactions page.
  2. Choose the old credit card account and click the tile.
  3. Click Edit account info. 
  4. Tick the Disconnect this account on save box.
  5. Hit Yes to confirm and click Save.

Alternatively, you can create a new account register, especially if it has a new account number. Just ensure to transfer the bank balance before disconnecting the old account. Follow the steps to add an account:

 

  1. Go to the Gear icon and choose Chart of Accounts.
  2. Click New.
  3. Enter the Account name.
  4. Select an Account type, and choose the Detail type from the dropdowns.
  5. Enter the necessary details needed and click Save.

 

Furthermore, review and categorize the downloaded bank transactions to ensure they are categorized correctly. This helps you to organize your charts of accounts accurately. Then, reconcile the account to match it with your bank statement.

Hello @Carneil_C 

Thank you for your directions. I followed them to the letter: Because credit card numbers were different, I disconnected the old account, created the new account, and then connected the new card. I departed from your directions only in that I didn't "transfer funds"; I entered the opening balance into the new account based on the account statement. Now, unfortunately, the transactions are downloaded but so are a year's worth of old ones. How do I get rid of the old transactions? They were already reconciled with the now-inactive account. Is this mess due to me not "transferring the funds"?

You can use the Exclude function to remove the old transactions that are already reconciled. This ensures that they're not added to your register as duplicates. I'll outline the entire process for you.
