credit card sub accounts

My client has set up his bank feed and it has both the parent and the sub credit cards showing as Bank accounts and so there are duplicate details. When I go into chart of accounts and try to state that one of them is a sub account of the other it comes up with a warning message saying "You can't change the parent of this account to Credit card  because it or its parent is already set up for Online Banking or Web Connect."

 

How do I un-connect the card I don't want without it affecting the bank feed for the other? Also should I un-connect the parent or the sub account?

I am still unclear on one thing.

If I have five HSBC bank accounts can I disconnect just one of them or will they all get disconnected and then I have to reconnect the ones I want?

 


You can disconnect one bank account at a time in QuickBooks Online, @Hayley Easter. I'll walk you through the process:

 

  1. Navigate to the Banking menu. Then choose the Banking tab.
  2. Choose the tile for the bank account.
  3. Tick the pencil ✎ icon, then select Edit account info.
  4. Choose the Disconnect this account on save checkbox. Note: If QuickBooks is downloading new transactions, you won't see this option. Wait a few minutes for the update to finish and try again.
  5. Choose Save and Close.

I’ve got some information to share with you about subaccount setup, Hayley.

 

Before connecting to Online Banking, you need to know how your bank sends the downloaded transactions.

 

If the transactions download to one account, connect only the parent account. Otherwise, you’ll want to connect the subaccounts. Please know that you can’t link both a parent account and its subaccounts.

 

You can follow the steps below to disconnect your account.

 

  1. Go to the Banking menu, then select the Banking tab.
  2. Select the tile for the bank account.
  3. Click the Pencil icon, then select Edit account info.
  4. Select the Disconnect this account on the save checkbox. If QuickBooks is downloading new transactions, you won't see this option. Wait a few minutes for the update to finish and try again.
  5. Press Save and Close.

To get rid of your duplicate transactions, you can use the Exclude feature. This makes sure your transactions won’t appear in any account registers or financial reports.

Hi

Thank you for your answer.

I just want to check, as i have not done it before, but the bank feed also brings in his current account and savings account etc which we have matched as appropriate. So if I disconnect the credit card account will it effect the current account feed or does it just stop the particular card you tell it to stop?

I'll share some information on what will happen if you disconnect a credit card account in QuickBooks Online. This way, I can guide you accordingly. 

 

If you disconnect the credit card account, the transaction will stop downloading to that card. For example: Let's say your transactions are uploaded to your sub-credit cards. Then, you need to disconnect the Parent account. Once disconnected, the data will be downloaded to the sub-account moving forward.

 

Before disconnecting, ensure to categorize the appropriate transaction and exclude the duplicates. This way, your bank feeds, and books are always precise. 

 

In addition, don't forget to reconcile your account to make sure they match your credit card statements.
