Deposits and transfers to other bank account

Need to record a PayPal deposit.  On the deposit screen, I break it down by class.  I have two investment accounts and know I can transfer from the checking account any amount I want to one or both of the investment accounts.  In the deposit screen, what "From Account" do I use?  Should I make up a temp income account, but if so, then how would I get the money out of that temp account after I make the transfer from checking to the investment account?

You can create a temporary PayPal bank account and utilize the Transfer Funds option instead to record these entries since it will not require a category account. You may add the correct opening balance so it will not be a negative amount when you record the transfer to your checking account.

 

If you haven't already, please follow these steps to create a temporary PayPal account:

 

  1. Go to the Lists menu, then choose Chart of Accounts.
  2. Click Create +.
  3. From the Type ▼dropdown, pick the account type.
  4. Complete the account details.
  5. Enter the correct opening balance.
  6. Tap OK to save it.

 

However, if you want to continue recording a deposit and use a temporary income account as the category in the From Account section, I highly recommend reaching out to your accountant for additional guidance or questions regarding recording these entries.
