Hi there, @Lcan

There are a few different reasons a recurring transaction won't recycle. However, the most common reason is due to the template not working properly. I'm including a couple of things you can do to try and repair the issue below.

First, let's check that recurring transaction is set to scheduled. Recurring templates will only create transactions automatically when the type is set to “Scheduled” and the template has not reached its end date or maximum occurrences. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear Icon.
  2. Under Lists, choose Recurring transactions.
  3. Find the template for the transaction that wasn’t created. Then, in the Action column, hit Edit.
  4. Make sure the Type is set to Scheduled, and End is set to None, or the appropriate end date or number of occurrences.
  5. Select Save template.

If everything seems to be set correctly, let's see if the tax code has changed. If some item or tax code used on the recurring template is changed indirectly, the template should update automatically to use the new info.

However, there are some instances when an error occurs and the sales tax used needs to be re-saved on the template.

If continuing to have issues with recurring transactions, it may be that the template is damaged and needs to be recreated.

If this is the case, please follow the guided steps in Fix failed recurring transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns that I can assist with. Take care!

I don't want the transactions to be scheduled.  Also, it doesn't just happen to one recurring transaction, it happens quite often.

Quickbooks said they would fix it but they have not.

Did you get this resolved?  I am having the same issue. Always after the second selection on the recurring transaction page. Once the second transaction is completed the screen will go back to the recurring transaction page very briefly ( about 1 second) and default back to my dashboard. Very frustrating as a do a lot of data entry from that page.

I did not get it resolved.  I am deleting my recurring transactions and reentering

them as I get time.  I’m not sure if that will solve the problem.

I contacted support about this problem today.  I have hoped that over the past new months (for me, it's been an issue since Nov 2023) they would fix the problems with Recurring Transactions.

The support person is going to have an engineer look at by the "Previous Date" is not populating.  Maybe something will get fixed?

Yes, it's annoying.  It automatically closes out the reoccurring transaction list and you have to open it to be able to continue.  I also don't like that I can't select multiple payments at once and have to do them individually.  My desktop version I just click a box just like in the pay vendors screen.

I am having the same problem. It added about three hours to my data entry last night. You can click on 2 recurring items and then it send you back to the prior screen. You then have to click on the gear icon and scroll back to where you were at in the list just to be kicked back out after two more entries. What a joke. Please fix this. I

Same issue, but I noticed that if you have the tasks widget on your home dashboard, the recurring entries that are due based on the days settings show up there once a day.  You can select/process them individually or create the entire batch all at once.  It then updates the reminders list accordingly.  If I use the reminders list to drive the process, then I have the same issue as outlined in the above thread.

Hope that helps some of you.

In my clients QBO, the recurring transactions are all set as reminders, since the amount varies.  In the past I was able to see what was coming up on the Dashboard.  Now, they are not showing on the dashboard and the dates are not changing once I "Use" the recurring transaction under the gear icon.  Losing faith in QB and am seeking other alternatives!

I appreciate you joining the thread and providing details about your issue, Larry. I know how precious time is for everyone. Let's navigate together to get this sorted out and get you back to business.

The recurring transactions will show on the dashboard. However, since you can't see it, we can perform browser troubleshooting to see if this is a browser-related error.

You can use the following keyboard shortcuts based on what type of browser you're using:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If there's no error while using the private browser, you can use your regular browser and clear your cache to start fresh.

On the other hand, regarding the error about the dates wherein they're not changing, please know that we have an ongoing investigation INV-104174. With this, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online support to have yourself added to the list of affected users.

Moreover, you can check out these articles that can help manage your recurring transactions:

I'll be on the lookout if you need further assistance managing your recurring transactions. Have a good one.

Joining in on the long list of users who are getting fed up with this stupid bug in the QBO system. I process a lot of invoices weekly, and they are all set up as unscheduled recurrent transactions. I am also having the same annoying issue of getting kicked back to the dashboard after the second invoice I process. Seeing that this has been an ongoing issue for a log time I am not feeling very optimistic that there will be a solution which is sad because it was caused by QBO so why can't they fix it?!?!? Having to go in and recreate every recurrent transaction all over again is ludicrous and will take me weeks to accomplish. It's absolutely ridiculous that this issue can't be resolved.
