Question

Doubled Up transactions when matching

Hello all,

I am trying to change the category on my bank feed but when I do it takes it out of my bank account twice. We have multiple transactions that are under Accounts Payable that should be categorized as different expenses, ie Construction Materials, Shop Supplies etc. However when I change the category the transaction shows up twice. I've tried reaching out to support and the only work-around we could come up with is to delete the original transaction and add a new transaction with the correct expense category. Why can't I just change the category and that's that???

Hello, @drillgirl.

I'll share some information about categorizing bank feed transactions. To avoid deducting your account twice, you'll have to use the Find match option instead of adding it (see the image below.)

The Find match option links your downloaded transaction with the one you already entered in QuickBooks. The Add option will create a new transaction for you since QuickBooks didn't find existing matching transactions.

For more information, please check out this guide: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Once you're ready, you can proceed with reconciling your account.
