Question

Downloaded bank detail is truncated in QuickBooks Online

Up until a few months ago, all information in "bank details" got downloaded. Now, only the first 30 or so characters are downloaded, making those bank feeds considerably less useful.  The bank detail itself has not changed, only the Quickbooks import. I could manually import the data, but that is considerably more time consuming. Can Quickbooks fix this?

Hello there, rom1.

Are you referring to your bank descriptions? If so, let’s try doing the browser trouble shooting steps. Unusual behaviors in the program can sometimes cause by an over loaded files in your browser.

We can start these steps by downloading the files again through a private window (you can delete the transactions that are already in QuickBooks before downloading them again to avoid duplicate entries).

Here’s how:

•    For Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + N.
•    For Internet Explorer or Firefox, press Ctrl + Shift + P.
•    For Safari, hold down Command + Shift + N.

If they work fine on a private window, I’d recommend clearing your browser’s cache or switching to other browsers.
However, if you’re still having truncated details after trying the steps above, it’d be best to reach out to our support team for further investigation.

Here’s how you can reach them:

  1. In QuickBooks, click Help at the top.
  2. Select Contact us.
  3. Type in your concern under How can we help?
  4. Click Continue.

Visit us again if you have other concerns about QuickBooks.

I reached out to the support team. The has been no resolution to this problem. Disappointing.  It means I have to do extra work.  Exploring alternatives to quickbooks.

This problem also exists in 2018 Desktop Pro. The First 30 or so characters are in the "Downloaded As" and the remaining characters and in the "Bank Memo Field". If Intuit would add the Bank Memo to the Rules it would really help out. But they won't. Stan

Thank you for joining the thread, @StanleyPDallas.

I've checked from our records and haven't found any ongoing investigation about this problem. To isolate the issue, you can start by importing a web connect file and check if the bank details are still truncated to 30 characters. If the same thing happens, I encourage reaching out to our Support Team so a representative can check and review this further.

To contact support:

  1. Click on QuickBooks Help from the Help menu.
  2. Tap on Contact us under the Have a questions? window. If the button doesn't show up, search something on the search field.
  3. Select your QuickBooks product.
  4. Type in a short description of your concern under the What can we help you with? section.
  5. Hit Search.
  6. Choose a way to connect with support under the Here's how to connect with a QuickBooks expert about "a...".

Angelyn_T

I have verified that my bank is provided all the information in the description column in an Excel CVS file.

See the attached file.

I would be happy to show someone this in a support session. I just don't want to spend hours on the phone getting to the point of a support session.

you can contact me and we can schedule a session.

My issue is on Desktop.  QB Online brings in more than desktop does.  How do you get it to show more spaces.  My bank feeds are useless.  I get one letter in the vendor name and the rest is numbers and dates.

Definitely could use some help here.
