Duplicate invoice payments in register but not on project

My company is using QuickBooks online. I have a couple of invoices that were paid and the checks were deposited in a lump sum. The lump deposit show in my register and on my bank statement. However some of the invoice payments are showing up separately in my register as well.  When I follow the steps to correct, the invoices are showing up as unpaid and overdue.  This happened in 2023 and just this year on an invoice payment in June.  How do I get rid of the duplicate payment showing in my register?  Both payments are cleared in previous reconciliations.

Thanks for bringing this up here, Catherine. I've got steps to remove the duplicate invoice payment entry in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

 

First, please ensure that you've identified duplicate entries in your bank register. You can go to the Accounting menu and select Chart of Accounts to find your bank account and click on View Register.

 

Next, match the lump sum deposit to the correct invoice by clicking on the + New button, selecting Bank Deposit, and checking off the relevant transactions.

 

Moreover, if payments were automatically downloaded from your bank feed, go to the Banking menu to find and undo the downloaded payment in the deposit transaction.

 

Finally, please ensure that these payments are deposited to the same bank so you can match them to a deposit together with the unpaid invoices using the Find a Match option. This will help maintain accurate records and ensure invoices reflect their correct payment status.
