A warm welcome to you from the QuickBooks Community forum, record. Thank you for posting your concern about the ending balance difference after reconciling your account. I've got you some information and guidelines to ease your worries.

In QuickBooks Desktop, when you reconcile an account, you compare transactions with the ones in your bank statement. In the long run, the difference between the two records should be $0.00. However, if it's not and the ending balance changes, don't worry. Here are some steps to fix these issues to finish reconciling successfully.

Before that, these are the reasons for the ending balance issues:

  • Someone entered an incorrect ending balance at the start of the reconciliation.
  • Some edited reconciled accounts and deleted some of their transactions.
  • There are missing or duplicate transactions in QuickBooks.
  • Someone entered transactions into QuickBooks that haven't cleared your bank yet.
  • Someone adjusted your last reconciliation with a journal entry.

Now, let us proceed. The first step is to review your opening and beginning balances. Ensure your opening and beginning balances are correct. Once you know these are accurate, you can start looking for other issues.

Next, look for changed, deleted, or added transactions. There are several reports in QuickBooks that show you these adjustments. A few would be the Reconciliation Discrepancy report and Missing Checks report. Here is how to pull them up:

  1. Go to the Reports menu. Hover over Banking and select Reconciliation Discrepancy.
  2. Choose the account you're reconciling and then click OK.
  3. Review the report. Look for any discrepancies.
  4. Talk with the person who made the change. There may be a reason they made the change. Once you know, edit the transaction as needed.
