What file type (extension) do I need to import bank transaction into quickbooks desktop pro 2017?

My bank only offers Quicken (QFX) and .CSV files to download.

Thank you for the reply, I really appreciate it.  But, the account is already set up as a Credit Card account.  See attached.

I've disabled the account and reinitialized it and it does connect properly but I am not getting any downloaded transactions.  After it connects it says "There are not transactions to review.".

I used to get the transactions properly into this CC account.

    Greetings, @Scott_B.

Allow me to share some insight on importing transactions via web connect and bank feeds. It sounds like you may have a damaged account in QuickBooks. The good news is, I can guide you through correcting this with just a few simple steps.

My recommendation is to merge your current credit card account with a new one. This will bring over all of your transactions, so you won't lose that data, and it will be in a new, healthy account. Here's how:

    • Go to your Chart of Accounts, right-click the problem account, then select Edit Account.
    • Highlight the Account Name, then click Copy.
    • At the end of the account name, enter an asterisk (*).
    • Go to the Bank Feed Settings tab then click the Deactivate All Online Services radio button.
    • Select Save & Close.
    • Go to the Chart of Accounts and create a new account.
    • Paste the Account name without the asterisk (*).
    • Close and reopen the company file.
    • Go to Chart of Accounts, right-click the account with the asterisk, then select Edit Account.
    • Remove the asterisk and select Save & Close.
    • Click Yes when prompted by the Merge warning dialog box.
    • Set up your account for bank feeds once more.
    • Try downloading transactions to the new merged account.

From this point, if you're still having trouble importing transactions via web connect, or bank feeds, you may need to troubleshoot further. In case that happens, I've included a helpful article for you here. If you have any questions about this or anything else QuickBooks, Don't hesitate to seek me out here in the Community.

You need a .QBO file and might have to talk with your bank. If you have the acountant ed, you can directly feed QB large numbers of transactions from a spreadsheet with just a little bit of column arranging, but plain desktop QB, I haven't been able to figure this out, and I don't think it can do it.

I've tried the QFX file that was originally downloaded by my bank, converting it to a QBO file as you've suggested and a CSV file.  Nothing works correctly.

First, I use QB Desktop Pro 2017

I go File...Utilities...Import...Web Connect... and select the QBO file.  I then get the following header info:

You are downloading transactions for the following account:

    The Financial Institution is incorrect

The Account type is "Credit Line" which is incorrect (needs to be Credit Card, I think)

...but the Account Number is right.

So, I need to select or create a new QB account to import the data into.  I do not want to do that.  I want to import the CC transactions into the CC account that is already active and working.

BTW - Why the transactions do not come down in my QB Bank Feed I do not know.  I am trying to catch up from Aug. 14 of last year and the Bank Feed connects properly but it says there are no new transactions.  So, I've reverted to downloading the transactions to import them.  This is why I am doing this.

HELP!  Next thing would be to just manually enter a few hundred, if not more, CC transactions since Aug. 14, 2017.

I believe (and it's been awhile since I used desktop for anything other than conversions) that the feed cannot see the existing account, so you have to first disconnect it from the direct connect link.  Go to Chart of Accts., find the acct., edit it and disconnect it.

Then try to pull that file you downloaded back in and the system will now list that acct as a possible acct. to connect to.  Then you can import it to the existing correct acct.

I remember having to do that now and again in the desktop days.

    @jonmelhus

Google QFX to QBO free converter for QuickBooks. It's should work fine.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks, I'll keep this in mind. I might have been quite useful last week, however with the Acountant's Ed I can just tailor my spreadsheet from the bank and upload all credits in one batch and all debits in another, but I don't think the OP has the accountant's ed.
