Question

Has anyone combined two quickbooks online accounts into one account?

We are a non profit and have used quickbooks online for several years. A few years ago we began operating a youth center and started a new quickbooks online account, thinking we may split the youth center into a separate entity at some point. We have not decided we will not be doing this and I would like to combine the two accounts.

Welcome to the Community, @gail-griner. I'm pleased to answer your first post.

As an insight, each company is required to have its own set of books. Hence, we do not recommend combining them.

As a workaround, you can consider using third-party applications that can sync data from QuickBooks files in many locations. It allows you to merge and compare companies easily.

Here's a link that you can check as a reference: Merge companies, data files, or copy lists. It has answers to most of your questions about merging company files.

You also want to know more about switching between company files in QuickBooks Online.

 Get back to me if you have more questions or other concerns with your QuickBooks Online account. I'll be glad to answer them. Have a great day!

@katherinejoyceO

the links:

Can two QuickBooks Online companies be merged into one company?

Can a list be copied or moved from one QuickBooks Online company into another?

Can a QuickBooks Online data file be merged into another QuickBooks version or vice versa?

all just go back to the same page.

Was following this question because I have experience combining multiple projects having separate bank accounts and ledgers for other nonprofits into a single accounting system (not QBO), and was curious about the process with QBO.

@gail-griner

It will be easier if you have the same CoA for both accounts. Then you can use the migration tool.

Otherwise, you should open a new blank QBO account with combined CoA and utilize the Class/Location feature available on Plus and Advanced if required.

Utilize the migration tool aforementioned or purchase a 3rd party merging service.
