Having issues connecting or reconnecting bank accounts to Quickbooks Online

I logged in this morning and went to update bank accounts and it gives me an error and says to reconnect but it won't work. So, I disconnected and tried reconnecting and this is the message I got: Sorry, an unexpected error has occurred. We could not fetch your accounts from your bank. I have contacted the bank after speaking to Quickbooks and the bank says they don't see anything on their end so might it still be an issue within Quickbooks.

Let's make sure that you can reconnect your bank account, BGrimm.

Before we start, may I know what is the name of your bank? This ensures we'll be able to isolate the issue. QuickBooks Online (QBO) downloads transactions automatically when you're able to connect your bank. If not, you'll want to manually update your bank transactions. To do this, follow the steps below:

  1.  Go to the Banking menu.
  2.  Select the Banking tab.
  3.  Locate the bank account that the transactions should be posted.
  4.  From the Update drop-down, select Update Now.
  5.  If prompted, enter your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) credentials.
  6. Click Continue Update.

However, if you're still experiencing the same issue, you'll want to download transactions and upload them in QBO. I've outlined the steps for the correct process.

To get transactions from your bank:

  1. Sign in to your bank or credit card's website.
  2. Follow your bank's instructions for how to download CSV files of your transactions to your computer.
  3. Check the date range for the download. It should be at least one day before the date of your oldest transaction.
  4. Download your transactions. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it, like your computer's desktop.

Then, manually upload them in QBO:

  1. In QuickBooks Online, go to the Banking menu or Transactions menu.
  2. Select Upload transactions.
  3. Select Drag and drop or select files and then select the file you downloaded from your bank. Then select Continue.
  4. In the QuickBooks account dropdown, select the account you want to upload the transactions into. Then select Continue.

Moreover, you can run reports for specific accounts and filter them to get the information you want. I've added this great resource for your guide: Customize Reports In QuickBooks Online.
