How can I split a transaction by amount if it is already auto-categorized by a rule?

If a transaction is auto-categorized by a rule, if I try to split this transaction, it only allows it to be split by percentage. Why?

Hi there, @clutz0304. I’m here to provide assistance in categorizing bank transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE).

You’re right that transactions automatically categorized by a rule are split by percentage, and setting this up by amount is unavailable. I acknowledge the importance of having the ability to split your entries by amount to work on them comfortably.

In the meantime, we can uncategorize the transaction by tapping the Type column and clicking Split. From there, we can start splitting them by amount. You can also refer to this for more details and refer to Edit or Recategorize a transaction section: Categorize transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Moreover, I suggest sending this product recommendation to our product development team, enabling us to comprehend what features business owners demand to use the product conveniently.

Here’s how:

  1. On your QuickBooks Self-Employed account, click Assistant in the upper right corner.
  2. Type in Submit Feedback and select Add a feature.
  3. You can send your comments directly to our engineering team, which helps us focus on the features you want most.

Additionally, here's a helpful resource you can look through to learn more about putting the transactions to the correct line of your Schedule C in QBSE: Categorize transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Let me know if you need any further assistance with managing bank transactions or any QuickBooks-related matters by posting them here. Stay safe!

Hello, your resolution does not work. This is exactly what I’m doing.

“—In the meantime, we can uncategorize the transaction by tapping the Type column and clicking Split. From there, we can start splitting them by amount.

I click the type column and click split and that is where it will only allow me to split by percentage. I don’t know what software you’re using but on QBSE web but this is not possible and there is NOT a way to uncategorize a transaction that has been categorized already.

in the meantime, on the Apple app for QBSE I can go and split the same transaction by amount, but not by percentage. How strange it is reversed…. So it’s not like it cannot be done. Why wouldn’t all softwares have the same features to reduce confusion?
