Question

How can I stop and save the matching process for a large monthly credit card deposit with more 700 transactions? It's a lot to try and do it in one go.

I am being told that I have to do it all at once, that there is no way to save it along the way. It's more than 2 hours of work and no way to stop and start the matching process, all lost when I tried to find a missing payment to receive.

Welcome to the Community space, @fullsail1.

Once your online banking is synced with QuickBooks, it will automatically update your bank transactions and it depends on the syncing time of your bank. However, you can create rules that automatically categorize your transactions.

To create a rule, here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu or Transactions menu.
  2. Select the Rules tab then click New rule.
  3. Enter a name in the Rule field.
  4. From the For ▼ dropdown, select Money in or Money out.
  5. From the In ▼ dropdown, select the bank or credit card account.
  6. In setting the rule conditions, make sure to specify whether the transaction must meet All or Any of the conditions.
  7. Select the settings for the rule. Select the Transaction TypePayee, and the Category to apply.
  8. Click the Automatically add to my books option on the Rules window.
  9. Select Save.

After creating a rule, QuickBooks automatically categorizes the bank transactions for you. This speeds up the review process so you can select Add to move the transactions directly to your register. You can also create targeted rules so specific transactions are automatically accepted into your books.

Thank you for the suggestion. The matching process I am doing involves choosing which payments for which individuals and for what amounts are being included in the deposit.  Therefore, I'm not sure I could create a rule that would find all the appropriate payments and include them in the deposit.  I have had further conversation with Intuit support and there is truly no way to stop the process and save it and come back to it later. I would have to leave the deposit open and in progress and hope that I don't lose the online connection before I can come back and work on it more.
