Question

How do I change the "Description" field of a transaction in QuickBooks checking that is automatically generated. The current description is wrong.

Currently, the "Description" field on a transaction for my QuickBooks checking account shows a vendor's name that has nothing to do with the transaction itself (which is a transfer from my QuickBooks checking account to another one of my business bank accounts). How do I change the description manually?

The information displayed in the Description field when using the QuickBooks Checking feature is system-generated, george-sourcedad.

The system populates this field automatically based on the details of the transactions themselves.

For now, there's no option to manually change the details. Since the information appears to be incorrect, I'd recommend reaching out to our phone or chat support teams. They can take a closer look at the transaction to determine why it's showing vendor details that are not related to the transfer that you initiated.

Here's how to reach out to them directly from your QBO account:

  1. Click the Help menu in the upper-right-hand corner of QBO.
  2. Proceed to the Assistant tab.
  3. Type in "contact support" in the chat box and press Enter.
  4. Select QuickBooks Online Support, then click Contact Us at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Click Ask about something else, then enter a short description of your concern.
  6. Choose between Have us call you or Chat.
