How do I change transaction types on reconciled transactions (need to change Transfer to Expense)?

I have 3 transactions (all reconciled) that I need to change, but I can't figure out how to do it. I tried unreconciling everything from the point of the mistake, so I could just redo those reconciliations, but is that possible? Does someone know how to get this cleared up?

You are in the right place, @clareschne.

Yes, you can change to reconciled transactions like modifying the category or description. Adjusting anything other than the amount and account on a given transaction will not affect its reconciliation status. You need to change the category and description of the reconciled transaction.

Here's how:

1. From the Gear icon, select Chart of Accounts.

2. Locate the bank account in the list and select View register.

3. Find and select the transaction you want to modify, then click Edit.

4. Change the Account Type, Detail Type, Name and Description, then hit the Save and Close button.

5. Repeat these steps for the remaining transactions you want to edit.

If you have issues with your opening balances, you can learn how to fix them by reading this article: Fix an opening balance to match a bank statement.

Alternatively, utilize bank rules that automatically categorize transactions for you. See this article for more details: Set up bank rules in QuickBooks Online.

Do you want to handle your reconciliation or other reconciled transactions? Please notify me, and I will walk you through the steps. If you need to do anything else in QuickBooks, I'll be there every step of the way.
