Question

How do I create a rule for a journal entry because Credit card transactions automatically come in via the credit card company connection as uncategorized income?

This causes a time-consuming problem. I'm having to change the category in the Chart of Accounts by hand each time. If there was a way to create a rule for a journal entry, coming in as uncategorized, it would help. I can't find a way to create one for journal entries.

Hello there, SCCTM.

Please know that when you manage downloaded transactions, you can create rules for your credit card payment, deposit, and transfer transactions. However, doing the process is currently unavailable for journal entries. I can see how manually categorizing them in the program impacted your business time. I'll ensure you can send feedback so your suggestion is forwarded to the Product Development Team.

I recommend submitting feedback about having the ability to create a rule for journal entries in QBO. The recommendations are sent to our engineer for consideration in future updates.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Choose Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions. Then, select Next to submit feedback.

In case you need steps on how to reconcile your transactions to avoid any discrepancies in your data or statements, you can read this article: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to add a comment below if you still have concerns related to categorizing entries in QBO. I want to make sure everything is taken care of for you, SCCTM. Have a great day!
