Question

How do I delete all information stored from my bank accounts and start with a clean slate?

I started using QuickBooks Online a week ago and have screwed up.

I have connected my bank accounts and downloaded all transactions for over a year.  Now I have decided that I only want to manage transactions since 1st April 2021.  I can not get rid of the earlier transactions and I wish I could.

Can I...

 - Set up a fresh account and connect to my banks to download all transactions since April 1st 2021?

 - Delete and re-connect my bank accounts to my existing QB account, this time downloading since April 1st only?

 - Delete or Exclude all transactions before April 1st?

Your suggestions please.

Sending good vibes to you, richard-davey2-g.

I know a way on how you can download your transactions starting April 1st, 2021 into QuickBooks Online. Let's get started.

When connecting your bank for the first time, the system will automatically download your most recent or 90 days' worth of transactions.

You can use the Exclude feature in QuickBooks Online and delete the statements from there so you can start a clean slate. Here are the steps to complete the process:

  1. Click Transactions in the left panel and choose Banking.
  2. Select the connected bank account.
  3. From the For Review tab, select all the transactions.
  4. Tap on the Exclude button.
  5. Go to the Excluded tab, select the transactions again.
  6. Hit the Delete button.

After that, you can follow the steps in the following article to import your transactions since April 1st, 2021: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online. On the same write-up, you'll find links on how to set up bank rules as well as reconciling your account.

Once imported, I recommend editing, assigning, and categorizing your transactions. Also, you can match them to the existing entries in the software. Just go to the For Review tab from the Banking menu. Doing so will help you ensure the accuracy of your financial records.

Please know that I'm just a post away should you need anything else. I'm always here to help and ensure that your questions are addressed accordingly. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead.

Hi, richard-davey2-g.

Hope you're doing great. I wanted to see how everything is going about the downloaded transactions you had yesterday. Was it resolved? Do you need any additional help or clarification? If you do, just let me know. I'd be happy to help you at anytime.

Looking forward to your reply. Have a pleasant day ahead!

Hi, Rose-A, you gave me warm support!

Which is usually good, but not so good this time.

You suggested that for each account, I delete all transactions and manually reload them via CSV files.

As suggested by "Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online".   This method I do not trust and I find it too complex.

Instead, you could have suggested that I automatically delete records, automatically load them from source, and automatically delete records which are too old.

That Method is more reliable, reduces user error, and can be done within the QuickBooks App.

To delete chosen Transactions...

Select Bank Account Register > Select transactions to be Deleted > Mark them Excluded.

Go to Excluded > Select transactions to be Deleted > Delete them.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Hedake.
