Hello go2comfort,

Thank you for reaching out to the QuickBooks Community. I have an excellent guide that assist with fixing balance issues before reconciling. A video presentation is also included that goes step by step. I also recommend connecting with your accountant to ensure this is the best pratice for your busines.

Please let me know how this works out for you. If you need further help I will be here to provide more information. Take care.

I have this same problem. But the links provided did not answer the question. I'm also working with Quickbooks online, closed an account that was linked to Quickbooks.  As soon as the account was closed, the link was lost and so the bank balance cannot update. How do I manually change the bank balance to zero?

I appreciate you for sharing the details with us, Alice.

You'll want to delete the transactions in your bank account to have a zero balance. I'll show you how.

  1. Go to the Gear icon in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account and select Chart of accounts.
  2. Locate your bank account and select the View register link under the ACTION column.
  3. Click on the transaction and select Delete
  4. Repeat the same process for your other transactions.

I'd also recommend working with your accountant to ensure the accuracy of your accounts after making these changes.

Furthermore, I'm adding this link that you can read for reference in efficiently reconciling your accounts: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online

I'm all ears if you need more help managing your accounts in QBO. I'll be more than happy to back you up anytime. Keep safe!
