How do I import a previous year's bank transactions?

Let me guide you on how to import last year's bank transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Matilda.

We can get transactions from your bank or credit cards and manually import them into the program. To avoid entering duplicates, you need to know the date of the oldest existing transaction currently in the account:

1. Go to the Gear icon on the top menu. 
2. Select Chart of accounts (Take me there).
3. You can also select Chart of accounts from the Transactions tab in the MENU ▼.
4. Find the bank or credit card account you want to upload the transactions into.
5. Click View register.
6. Find and write down the date of the oldest transaction. Usually, the oldest transaction is the opening balance.

Once done, get the transactions form your financial institution. Let me guide you how: 

1. Sign in to your bank or credit card's website.
2. Follow your bank's instructions for how to download CSV files of your transactions to your computer. Every financial institution has different steps. Here are steps for Bank of America, Chase, and Wells Fargo.
3. Check the date range for the download. It should be at least one day before the date of your oldest transaction.
4. Download your transactions. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it, like your computer's desktop.

Your bank may offer a few file formats and you can pick the QuickBooks Online data (QBO) format. These are formatted specifically for QBO and you can also upload transactions from a CSV or Quicken (QFX) file.
