Question

How do I merge two general ledger accounts and fix the downloads to go into the right acct? I set the banking up to download, but everything is going into a new account.

I set the banking up to download but everything is going into a new general ledger account instead of the one I assigned.  I need to merge the accounts and correct the downloads so they are going into the correct account.  I have used Desktop for years but  I am just learning Online and it is very different.

Thank you for joining us here in the Community, @shawcl55.

I understand it is confusing since you were using QuickBooks Desktop before. Don't worry. I'm here to show you how to merge two ledger accounts in QuickBooks Online(QBO).

Here's how:

I'll show you how:

  1. Go to Bookkeeping and choose Chart of Accounts.
  2. Look for the account you want to keep and click Edit from the drop-down icon beside the View register.
  3. Take note of the Name and Detail Type, then click Cancel.
  4. Look for the account you want to merge with the first account, then click Edit from the drop-down icon beside the View register.
  5. Enter the Name and Detail Type of the first account in the appropriate fields.
  6. Click Save and Close.
  7. When a prompt message appears, click Yes.

You can also check how to merge duplicate accounts, customers, and vendors in QuickBooks Online to learn more about the various data you can combine in this program. For accountant use, it includes information to merge your customers and a link to combine multiple client lists.

I want to ensure everything is taken care of, so please get back to me if you need additional help merging ledger accounts. I'd be more than willing to keep in touch.
