Question

How do I move payroll transactions that are incorrectly listed in one bank account to another? They correctly pulled from Bank A but are in my register as Bank B.

In QB desktop I could go in and change the bank pretty easily.  Now I can't seem to figure it out.  The payroll correctly pulled from Bank A but when we transitioned to QB online, incorrectly Bank B is listed.  I just need to move the actual payroll over so my funds show correctly.  Thanks!

We want to provide a smoother experience when using QuickBooks Online (QBO), particularly in tracking payroll transactions, Stef. We'll review the payroll account set in your company and create a journal entry to move the entries to Bank A.

Let's start by going to your Payroll Settings to check the setup. Here’s how to do it:

  1. In your company, head to the Gear icon in the upper right and select Payroll settings.
  2. This action will open your payroll preferences.
  3. From there, go to the Bank accounts section and check the account used for payroll.

If the information is incorrect update it to ensure that transactions are tracked to the appropriate bank account. For detailed steps, refer to this guide: Change your payroll bank account. Then, go directly to Step 4.

Next, let's create a journal entry to move the entries. I suggest contacting an accountant first to get advice on the right category for the debit and credit.
